Congratulations to our students who are celebrating GCSE success this morning. Headteacher Susanne Kukuc said ‘At Wolfreton we are delighted to be celebrating together once again.  As a school we have seen some excellent results both individually and for department teams.  Following a time of significant change and uncertainty nationally, we are incredibly proud of what has been achieved by our students and staff who have worked so hard and so well together to achieve these successes.  The school has seen improvements in many measures and students have been celebrating too, achieving the top grades and also important personal milestones.  We are incredibly proud of everyone.'

Headlines figures include:

• 75% achieved Basics (9 – 4 English and maths)
• 86% achieved 9 – 4 English
• 80% achieved 9 – 4 maths.
• Improvements again in the EBacc measure with 45% achieving 9 – 4 Basics
• 23% of grades in  the new 9 – 1 qualifications were awarded at 9 - 7
• Subjects including English, Chemistry, PE, Further Maths, Geography and Art achieved particularly high proportions of 9 – 7 grades with 19 History students achieving the top Grade 9

Hessle Sixth Form College, A Level highlights

• Overall 100% Pass Rate (six years in a row)
• Overall 22% of grades achieved were A*A (or equivalent)
• Overall 54% of grades achieved were A*B (or equivalent)
• 19% of grades achieved in academic subjects were A*A
• 50% of grades achieved in academic subjects were A*B
• 82% of the grades achieved in Academic Subjects were A*C
• Outstanding results were recorded by English Literature where 82% of Grades were A*B, Biology where 65% of Grades were A*B. Further Maths had an outstanding set of results with 100% A* Grades achieved.

Hessle Sixth Form students are celebrating today as they receive their A Level results. “Yet again, our Sixth Form students have produced results that are ahead of the national average,” said Vince Groak, Associate Headteacher.  “There are so many individual success stories and our staff are incredibly proud of what the students have achieved. These results are especially pleasing when you consider that the vast majority of these subject courses were redesigned in the past two years to make them more challenging and to better prepare students for their future pathways. In addition, many of our students also studied the new, more rigorous, suite of vocational qualifications and have performed very well. On behalf of the students, I wish to thank all of our staff for handling these changes so professionally and, as ever, we are delighted that so many of our students will now be preparing for the next stage of their education or training, whether that be university or an apprenticeship.”

Director of Sixth Form, Louise Price, hailed the individual successes achieved by students.  “We are delighted with the success of our students who have worked hard to progress onto their future pathway. Over 88% of our students have chosen to study at University and we are thrilled that two of our students have secured places at Oxbridge universities.  Due to their successful results, Cecilia Marchant will study German at Oxford while Will Ransom has achieved a place at Cambridge to study Classical Civilisation.  Our continuing success reinforces our philosophy that ‘every student is capable of extraordinary achievement’ and ensures that students achieve their academic potential.  We pride ourselves on providing our students with access to the best possible opportunities to allow them to move onto their future pathways. I would like to congratulate our students and thank them, their parents and our staff team for all their hard work and wish them every success for the future as they go on to start their careers or continue in Higher Education.”

The Headteacher and staff at Hessle High School and Penshurst Primary School have been selected for top roles supporting schools in challenging circumstances and training new teachers. Mrs Sarah Young is one of more than 50 headteachers to be appointed to the role of national leader of education in the latest recruitment round.

National leaders of education along with staff in their school – appointed as national support schools – use their      knowledge and experience to provide additional leadership capability in other schools in need of support. 

The type of support provided is flexible and tailored to meet the needs of each individual school. National leaders      of education also have responsibility for developing the next generation of NLEs and national support schools.

Mrs Young, Executive Headteacher of Hessle High School and Penshurst Primary through school said: ‘In recent        years we have demonstrated our ability to sustain our own exceptional performance whilst at the same time                support schools and leaders in challenging circumstances across both primary and secondary phases. As part of The Consortium Academy Trust our ability to draw on skilled professionals to support in all areas of school life is a real advantage. Our aim is to ensure that through collaborative support we ensure better outcomes and futures for children and young people within all schools.'

The Consortium Academy Trust has been invited by the Department for Education, following nomination by John Edwards, the Regional Schools Commissioner for the East Midlands and Humber region, to take part in the MAT Development Programme. This programme, which has only been offered to a select 25 multi-academy groups, will involve the Trust working in partnership with the Thinking Schools Academy Trust who are an established and successful Trust based in Medway, Kent.
