  • Holderness delighted with results

    Published 12/08/21

Holderness Academy & Sixth Form College are delighted with their latest set of GCSE and A-level results. The Class of 2021 have performed exceptionally well as a group while also highlighting some excellent individual performances. All of this being achieved in the most difficult of circumstances.

Year 11 students at Holderness Academy are celebrating their GCSE grades with the school enjoying sustained success across the board, including both core and vocational subjects. Our learners should be very proud of their hard work, resilience and dedication to their studies and richly deserve their success.

Many of our students have shown some remarkable individual performances. Dylan Chelu, Katie Palmer, Abigail Jamieson, Rebecca Hodgson and Sophie Crooks were amongst our top performers achieving 11 GCSEs each at a grade 8 or above.

Sixth Form learners at Holderness Academy are celebrating their A Level grades after two challenging years. The students’ hard work, resilience and dedication to their studies has resulted in some excellent subject and individual results.

Notably, Thomas Stephenson achieved five A* grades at A-level as well as an A* in his EPQ and will read Computer Science at Durham University.

James Wilson achieved four A* grades and will go on to read Physics at Durham University.

Ethan Gollings has achieved three A* grades and an A grade at A level as well as an A* in his EPQ and will be reading Mathematics at Durham University.

Mia Barlow has achieved three A* grades and an A grade at A level and will read Law at the University of York.

Excellent individual performances were also seen by Madelaine Stannard with three A* grades at A level and she will read Zoology at the University of York.

Rileigh Grantham achieved two A* grades and an A grade at A-level as well as an A grade in her EPQ and will take up her place to study Medicine at Hull York Medical School.

Lily Stocken achieved three A grades and one A* grade at A level and will read Biochemistry at the University of Nottingham.

As the Sixth Form is inclusive in nature, many students had followed a mixed programme of A-levels and Vocational courses. Lani Johnson being an example of this as she achieved a Distinction grade in her BTEC, and an A grade in her Applied A level with a further two B grades at A level and will follow an Art and Design programme at Hull College.

While many students progress directly to university, others have secured employment and apprenticeships. We congratulate Louise Pearson who has followed her career aspiration in becoming an Apprentice Financial Case Handler.

These results are indicative of how hard the students and staff have worked this year and highlight a consistently high level of individual student performance over seven years at Holderness Academy and Sixth Form College. We are enormously proud of our students who continue to achieve results that have seen every student who applied for university achieve a place. The Sixth Form has a diverse range of students across all abilities who are moving into further study, high level apprenticeships and employment. They deserve to be pleased with these excellent achievements.

This year, following the cancellation of exams, grades were awarded through a process of teacher assessed grades, against a national standard and approved and awarded by the exam boards. The government is not publishing performance data for any schools or colleges this year due to the varying impact of the pandemic.

  • Howden GCSE celebrations

    Published 12/08/21

Howden School is pleased to report some outstanding achievements by its students in their GCSEs and other qualifications this summer. This year, following the cancellation of exams, grades were awarded through a process of teacher assessed grades, against a national standard and approved and awarded by the exam boards.

Year 11 students are celebrating their success after picking up their results this morning. Headteacher, Mr Cannon, said 'We are immensely proud of all the work and achievements of our students, especially after such a difficult and disrupted year. Our teachers have worked tirelessly to ensure students are all able to progress onto further education. Today we are delighted to be celebrating with our students as they have received their results and chosen their next steps. It has been a pleasure for staff to again share in so many individual successes and the realisation of personal ambitions and goals. This, of course, comes after many months and indeed years of effort and commitment by both students and staff, supported by their families.

I congratulate them all on their hard work, resilience and positivity in navigating the demands of these qualifications, they have been the embodiment of our values. Results day is always about the young people and about them being able to move on to chosen destinations. Many have now decided to move onto Selby College, York College, Bishop Burton College, Wyke College and other Post 16 Providers for their next ventures. Others are celebrating as they prepare to begin coveted apprenticeships with companies. We wish each and every one of them success and happiness as they move forward and we look forward to hearing their successes in the years to come as they make a difference in society.'

Sarah Young, TCAT's Director of Education Services added 'Despite the challenges faced by our students in recent times, we are extremely proud of their resilience and positive approach to supporting each other and celebrating their success throughout their school life, culminating in today’s achievement day. Despite initial shock and concern, our students have approached this period of learning with maturity and positivity with a view to their next steps. Our staff have worked hard with school leaders to offer reassurance to individual students as well as ensuring that the processes for centre awarded grades have been implemented with rigour, ensuring that all students receive the grades they deserve.

Our ethos of ethical leadership has been at the forefront of this opportunity within our profession to support the assessment of learners based on a broader assessment of their skills and ability rather than simply their examination performance.’

News from Hessle: ''Today marks the culmination of a long journey for students who are collecting their A Level Results. The way in which students’ grades have been calculated this year has provoked a great deal of debate and interest but the most important part of today is to recognise the hard work and talent that our students have demonstrated over many years and to celebrate their success in securing the next stage of their educational journey. We are delighted that 100% of our students who applied have secured a place at university, with over 20% at Russell Group universities and that our students have chosen to study at prestigious universities across the UK, including Durham, Cardiff and Belfast. Despite the challenges faced by our students in recent times, we are extremely proud of their resilience and positivity and the maturity they have shown. Likewise, our staff have always worked ethically and professionally to support and guide the students throughout a difficult time. On behalf of all staff at Hessle Sixth Form College, well done to all of our students, congratulations on your success and all the very best for the future.''
